One fateful night, when the rain thundered down, A prince slept alone Under his eiderdown

He dreamed of a lover With silken red hair And they lived happily ever after, A wonderful pair

And what do you know!? Someone knocked at the door And through his royal letterbox The stranger did call

"Good prince, if you please, I'm lost on my way! If I could rest here for Just one night and one day?"

With a voice like a song She'd be pretty, and fair! The prince swiftly awoke, And flew down the stairs

"My princess, my princess, I come, do not fret! Do not give up And walk away yet!"

He snatched for the handle, And yanked the door wide And when he saw what he found He let out a cry

Stood on his doorstep All covered in dirt Was a tiny white piglet In a bonnet and skirt!

"My prince, I do fear, That a pig I've become By the villages witch I've been cursed to be one!

I was a princess And I'd dance to the bells That she rang when she practiced Her witching hour spells

But one day she came out, And saw my flaming red hair And snatched me from the street And just kept me there!

I squeaked and I squawked, So she'd let me go But she made me a pig, And threatened a roast

But I ran away After three years of this And now I am here, Telling you this

Please let me in, Oh wonderful sir, I look like a pig, But I'm honestly a girl!"

The prince thought awhile, And stroked his broad chin, And said things like "hmmm..." As she stood in the wind

"I'm afraid, piggy-wiggy I do not trust you, There's no way to tell If this is quite true

I refuse to give you A first kiss of true love Because you're all dirty, And I'm not wearing gloves

Making you sleep In my bed, piled high Well... You'd eat the pea, And I'm not that kind of guy

Perhaps I could ask In my mirror of youth But let's face it, you'd crack it To tell the plain truth"

The pig shed a tear, And turned back away And so she walked off To start a new day

Later she met with A young farmers boy, With a sweet, young, kind face, And a heart full of joy

He heard her story, And said, with a smile, "Of course, come right in, sit By the fire for a while!"

And, as the pig stepped Inside of the door, A silvery mist Arose from the floor

Before his young eyes, The pig became girl, And oh, she was pretty, With her flaming red curls.

And so, they were wed On the very next morn And kept many REAL piglets On their farm, nice and warm
