Why does the rainbow get so much fuss?
It's not like the colours are new.
You can find them, after all,
In other places too.
Red in the flesh of a tomato,
Red in the mark of a knife.
Red in the beating of a heart,
Red is the colour of life.
Orange in the autumn leaves,
Orange in the fiery range.
Orange in the setting of the sun,
Orange is the colour of change.
Yellow in the ooze of pus,
Yellow in the eye of the deer.
Yellow in the fangs of the vampire,
Yellow is the colour of fear.
Green in the light that means 'go',
Green in the button for 'yes'.
Green in the stamp of approval,
Green is the colour of progress.
Blue in the shimmer of the waves,
Blue in the lucky charm.
Blue in the grace of a bird's wing,
Blue is the colour of calm.
Indigo in the flavour of spice,
Indigo in that just begun.
Indigo in the choices made,
Indigo is the colour of freedom.
Violet in the hands of a lover,
Violet in Zorro, anon.
Violet in the bruises from a fight,
Violet is the colour of passion.
Perhaps this is the rainbow's secret,
All colours rolled into one.
Life, change, fear and progress,
Calm, freedom, passion.
