This poem was originally going to be a reference to "Doctor Who", but it quickly became something else entirely.

I once found a little blue box that I used to travel time Age and youth did matter little when I could just rewind And with this box I saw the ages; present, future, past I saw what was, what is, what will, and what could come to pass.

I saw the stars when they were formed with nothing from raw space I saw the earth when life began, the birth of the human race I saw the start, the peak, the end, of cultures great and small I saw the births, the lives, the deaths of people one and all.

I watched a seed begin it's life and watched it end in flame I watched a raindrop as it fell and glistened in the rain I watched a sparrow fly away, never to come back home I watched a boy become a man, then leave his past to roam.

All this I saw with my little blue box, till I at last grew tired In all my searching I could not find the one thing I desired Each day I went out to search, alone, but always in the end I came back home with my little blue box, my one and only friend.

When I had lived a thousand lives and found nothing for me I then resolved to stay right here and end my misery My endless days of traveling were finally at their close I'd live my life, a mortal again, until the final repose.

So for one last time I began my life, a man with an ancient mind I lived with a quiet dignity as befitted one of my kind My little blue box I tossed away, for it had no more appeal I found that between the past and the future, only the now was real...

And then I met you

Yes, I once found a little blue box that I used to travel time But now it's gone and I've come to see that I don't really mind For I now see that a thousand lives, lived with my box of blue Could never compare to the life that I have, now that I know you.
