This was not originally intended to be a love poem, but it had a mind of it's own. Oh well...

When we were young, you danced with me while our mothers sat and talked We danced upon the meadow green We danced upon the stage We danced for joy of souls still clean We danced away from age We sauntered here and sashayed there while others slowly walked. . . . When we were young, you played with me while our fathers were at work We played in fields and riverbanks We played up in the trees We played at war with guns and tanks We played, just you and me We climbed up this and slid down that till one of us got hurt. . . . When we were young, I told you that I would love you all my life I told you when the sun arose I told you late at night I told you true love always knows I told you it was right We spoke of now and whispered then, the future man and wife. . . . When we were young, it seemed so clear that you and I should be It seemed as true as passing time It seemed as clear as day It seemed so solid in my mind It seemed the only way We thought of it and nothing else, though now it's only me. . . . Now we've grown and have grown apart When we were young, you danced with me, but now I dance alone When we were young, you played with me, but now I sit and stare When we were young, I told you we could make ourselves a home When we were young, it seemed like love, but now you just don't care Now we've grown and we must depart.
