Chapter 1- Family Ties

6 months before I was born mother and father got divorced. Little did they know, I was on the way! When my mother found out three months after, she was in a state of shock. She tried to contact my father, realising the mistake that was their divorce, but he was not on any records. Anywhere. No phone number, no address (he left his old house a week after the divorce), no anything. My mother worked tirelessly to feed me, clothe me, keep me in school and keep her 9 to 5 job. In her precious few spare moments she glanced over countless sources to find any trace of my biological father.

When I was 5, my mother found someone else to take the place of my father and she soon forgot of her endless search. That marriage went down the drain in about 5 years. I then found my mother searching for my father again, but instead found another big, steaming pile of nothing. She soon found what she was looking for at the bottom of the post-it notes block. My father had left a note with his new address on, on the last post-it there was, so we would find it in the future and visit him (he had heard of my birth already). 'The house is deep in the woods, it was my childhood home' read the note with the forest name written at the bottom, 'Großmann Woods'. When my mother showed this to me she was beaming. 'Would you like to meet your father?' She said with a big grin in her face. 'Yes but ma, do you actually know where 'Grobman (I've never learnt German! Don't judge me on my pronunciation!) woods' is?' Was my reply. In all truth she had no idea, but looked it up on a map and we set off. We arrived at the woods but had trouble finding an obvious entrance, so continued around looking for one.

That's when we hit the tree.

I land on the floor as I clamber out of the car. It appears that my mother expected me to follow her as she took the post-it's with her. I inspect the damage done to my body from the collision. Nothing but bumps, bruises, scrapes, and a splitting headache. Nothing serious. I get up and check the car for anything. The only things I find are a torch, batteries and a packet of cheese and onion crisps. Not much, but when life gives you cheese and onion crisps, eat them.

I leave the wreck of my car and wander into the woods, unknowing of the dangers that lie ahead, and horrors that lurk behind. I will find my mother. Even if I can't find my father. I take the first tentative step into the leafy ground with a crunch. I'm past the point of no return.
