Chapter 16 Preparation

This was the day.. I was SOO excited. Even though it was Mum's birthday and not mine. I got up early to make her a full English breakfast. I took out the nicest plate she had and took her breakfast up to her room. Mum was already awake. Staring at the ceiling. The ceiling wasn't exactly a pretty sight. Cracked walls climbed up to it. The paint was peeling off. It looked like a basement in here! I looked back at mum and handed her the breakfast. "Oh darling.. You didn't have to do this!" "Of course I did!" I hugged her tight. I could feel tears dropping down my back. But they were happy tears. Warm and soft. After mum had finished her scrumptious meal, we went downstairs to organise for the party. It wasn't going to be a very big one. Just eight or less people. Including mum, myself and Rex (who was outside chasing blue butterflies.) I picked up the phone and mum gave me a list of numbers to call. There was Jack Rant. Lucy Board-man. Andrew Carter, Michele Lowly and Daniel Ferguson. I called all of them and they all said they would happily come along to the party. Next was clearing up the house. I managed to clear downstairs in a hour. Mum volunteered to clean upstairs. I asked mum about the food. "Sweety.. Be a good girl and go and buy something nice?" "Sure!" I race to the door with £20 in my pocket. I search around the shop for party food. There was a 50% of sausage rolls. So I bought two of them. I food a couple of spring rolls; vegetarian and non-vegetarian. There was a get 2 for the price of 1 sale on the crisps. I HAD to buy sweets. When I had bought everything and left the counter I checked my bill. £18.30. I got £1.70 change. At least I didn't spend ALL my money. When I got home, which was maybe ten minutes later, the house looks spotless! It was beautiful! I finally saw things I had never seen before. A antique mirror; which was usually covered by coats. The cream stairs, I thought they were black! I went upstairs. Mum had changed the bed sheets. It was now a royal purple colour. I checked her room. WOW!! The room that looked like a basement.. Looked like a princesses chambers! Mum had put a vase of roses on the small table. She had painted the cracks on the ceiling. The bed sheet was a very grown up pink. With a hint of purple. I helped mum, back downstairs, with the cooking. The guests were going to arrive in a hour. We needed to prepare EVERYTHING! So far, so good! Just the cooking that needs to be done!
