An eye for an eye:
When you fight fire with fire, you get a bigger fire.
A senseless effort with a counter-productive outcome.
The golden rule states, "Treat others as you would have them treat you."
That does not mean treat others exactly the way they treat you.
To fight a fire, you need water, so to fight cruelty, you need compassion.
