Eyes sunken in grey crêpe skin
Begging for mercy from deep within.
Beeps and bumps and flashing care;
It's only morphine, nobody's there.
Just skin and bone, no meat on the table,
No slab of flesh for the person who's able.
Clawing at life with a feeble grasp,
This shaky life-force isn't going to last.
A whimpering rasp begging 'Please,
Press the button. End my misery.'
But nobody listens and nobody hears;
They've kept you alive for all these years
To get better, to strengthen, to be on the mend,
They think it's humane to evade your end
But all you want is a cold release.
What's life without living? Just there on your knees.
No, love shows no mercy, it's pure selfish blindness ,
Saying they keep you out of morals and kindness.
But, what is compassion if not breathing your last
Whenever you want to, when you don't have to ask?
