Perched upon my ticking clock
A sentry to my rest
Little cherub hewn from lime block
Guarded by the best.
Now I lay me down to sleep
Upon my pillow here
I pray to God my soul to keep
So of Death I may not fear.
As but one angel at my bed
This guard is all I need
As but one host placed at my head
My evening prayers do heed.
Just one to watch, just one to pray
As I slip of to my dreams
Just the one to bear my soul away
If my life rips at the seams.
Your blameless face keeps the watch
With an elbow rested on knee
So please, my little prayers do catch
For the Almighty.
