You stare back at me, Dozy, jaundiced rag-doll As He claws at my shoulder, Watching the situation, Waiting to pounce And escort you off. You puff and wheeze through your oxygen mask. Just a cigarette. All I wanted was a cigarette. All you ever wanted was a cigarette And now look what it's done to you. Eye half closed Due to swelling in the brain Stuck in this squeaky, stingy place. All on Death's door Every one of you in this ward Yet you're a herd of sheep, Slaves to the nicotine, Tar and CO. All you want is a cigarette. All He wants is a cigarette To push you over, To stop a kidney, To stop a lung, To stop a heart. It's the cigarettes. The reason we harp on About seizures and falls, Failure of organs. A space of twenty-five miles Between us and you, You and us. An insurmountable gap to surmount To save a life Because of a cigarette. Because of your habit, Nursed and indulged for fifty years or more. Cigarettes. Once so bohemian Now so deadly. Syringes of chemicals That cloud your blood, Cloud your mind, Cloud your speech As you droop to one side Yet again, Wilting away before us. All you wanted was a cigarette, Now look what you've become. A bloated bag of toxins A machine will never pump out, Never clear up, Never purify, Sanctify At your wake. And all for a cigarette. The nail in your coffin Prepared to be hammered. Tobacco and paper. Lit up in smoke, Gone in a puff 'Just like your life Soon enough.' He says as his nails dig into me, Nails seep into me Staining me black In a technicolor world. Cigarettes. It's all because of cigarettes. Your life could be saved without cigarettes But they're your loved ones now As you shun us, Say sucks to our pleading. They don't talk back. That's what you like. The silent arm of ether around your shoulders Not your neck, heavens no, They're your friends. They just send you off In your twisted pleasure. Bon voyage. Crack champagne off your bow As we wave hankies And throw soil over your deck While you are laid in the depths. Your haggard figurehead becomes 'Nothing more than what was.' He reminds me, The cold stare over my shoulder, The nail marks bleeding tears and love Gone unanswered As you reach for your cigarettes.

Oh waddaya know my 100th post. Oops ruined the seriousness :/
