I guess when things get cloudy

We forget.

We forget the sky's still there

Past the murk

If only we care to remember it.

We forget the sun still shines

Behind her dressing screen.

We forget that when it clears

The warmth falls on our faces

As it dries our wet selves out.

When the clouds are forming

We count the eggs

That have fallen from our basket

Rather than the ones still in it,

We count the broken shells we tread on

Not the smooth ones in our grasp.

Once you count those, my friend

The clouds disappear,

The sun comes out in her splendour,

You learn to cling to what matters in the tempest

And you will know what it is

To have courage.
