I've heard somewhere over the rainbow,
Way way up high,
There's another land so beautiful
Holding court in the sky.
I heard at the rainbow's end
There's a pot of gold to be had.
Untold riches
To please any lass or lad.
I heard a rainbow was a promise,
I heard rainbows mean harmony,
I heard rainbows end the torrents
That fall on top of me,
But if I wish on a rainbow
The torrents don't stop,
My world keeps spinning out of control,
Keeps on running amok.
You can't fly over a rainbow
Or jump or soar or vault,
So belief in a better place over there
Is definitely brought to a halt.
And there's no gold at the end of the beautiful arc
It was a trick, a ploy, a con,
Because rainbows are in fact circles
That just go on and on.
So the thing that we all marvel at,
The beauty that captivates and awes
Has let me down; it isn't
What it's cracked up to be at all.
