Scientists say that we hate
Because other people reflect us.
We see something in them
That's in ourselves and causes us fuss
Because that trait that's in our souls
Is one which causes us alarm,
Something that we dislike
And makes us cause emotional harm.
We look at others, see a flaw
Which starts to niggle away at us
All these things like greed and anger,
Impatience, nosiness and lust.
These things that annoy us are presented
Through ourselves under our collective nose
Then we get angry, mean and spiteful.
Well, that's how the theory goes.
It's turning into quite a problem,
But there's a way to combat it;
Make a list of folks you hate
And why you hate them, then just sit.
Sit in front of your mirror
Take a beady, critical eye
And if you look close enough,
Examine yourself and don't be shy,
You will see those things in others
That constantly get on your goat
Are there in you and annoy you also,
We're almost all the way through this note.
Once you identify these habits
Which have caused both you and them pain
You can get over these petty grievances
And we shall all be friends again.
