Demons haunt me in the dark
My own demons I have birthed,
Pricking me with pins so sharp
With every negativity on earth.
If I'd been more womanly
Maybe then perhaps he'd stay,
If I were more beautiful
Things would be a different way.
You were never the pretty one
That was for your young sibling
And when your wit has come undone
You won't have a single thing
Going for you. Too patronising,
Always too chubby in primary school,
Too much of a tomboy,
Said you weren't a real girl you fool.
And while I writhe in agony
With searing needles in my skin,
I pray for some relief that will
Halt the hellish din.
