Find a penny picky it up Then all day you'll have good luck? Ah, my friends, who weep and howl Luck's not something to be found. Luck's a virtue to be made From bits of wood and bricks and clay And old tablecloths and string and tack, You can never win luck back. You must toil with bleeding hands, Scrape away your selfish demands And get down on your hands and knees To win your friends and fell enemies. No, luck is not an easy ride That by its own device is supplied, There's no such thing as luck of the draw. No, what you need is hammer and saw To formulate the good old ship, To find a lifetime's goals in it. So don't you dare just moon around With your eyes always looking down In hope of a grimy copper piece, It'll change your life the very least. No, fix your eyes out front and scout For avenues of opportunity, find them out, Keep a weather eye on the horizon all the day And something good will come your way. For if you look for coins down by your feet A big brick wall your head will meet.
