Lie down beside me
Not with me,
Beside me,
And perhaps we'll know
What it is
To be still.
Drinking each other in,
Making princes of paupers
And ladies of strays.
Gazing upon rubies and sapphires
Opals and spun gold
Radiant in the faint morning light.
I am no Cave of Wonders
But each kiss crowns me,
Wraps me in silks,
My genie from a bottle
Found buried in desert sands,
So pure, so hypnotic
Among the masses,
So precious
From the tiger's mouth,
Rain upon the Sahara.
Make me precious,
Make me priceless,
Make me like you
Baptised anew
In molten glory,
Lie down beside me.
