Now the veil of slumber falls upon you

Enbalms you, ready for the tomb

Of safe, dark nights where stars may watch you

In Mother Nature's calming womb.

Each night the closest we may come

To Death in life, touching but the hem

Of His brooding cloak before the dawn

Shall reincarnate, baptise again.

Each ray of Phoebus' flaming chariot

Painting you with vitality,

Glorious effervescence with each gesture

Each kiss, each word, each sigh we see.

But now 'tis time to put to rest

The fervour of the daylight's dance

And like the phoenix turn to ashes

Cold, unmoving, in Nyx's romance.

Selene shall stroke your peaceful curls

As, in rest, bed-prayers unfurl.
