I walk this dusty road Hearing the piper's call Drifting with the leaves, I followed all the signposts And even bought a map.

But I look upon them now Climbing in the distance, A spiral staircase built With rich deeds and angel wings, Birds and panpipes calling them home. I cannot go where they go.

The voices from the forest, Emerging from the woods To follow the heavenly light, The whispering songs of the angels Carried on the winds. No I cannot go where they go.

More are striking up the chords, Heeding the call, Swarming up the stairway Clung with ivy. They all call the tune, Hopeful of a new dawn, A new Jerusalem for the steadfast Who stood though others were long gone.

I cannot go where they go. I thought both paths led there So I didn't change my road, The hum in my head beckoning me home. But I cannot go, My stairway lies where you cannot see In the gentle western breeze. No, I cannot go where you go.
