I guess I better make a start On your poetic request, You always said out of we six At capturing words I was best. It's not that I don't love you I'm just well prepared, That's why I don't cry Or utter a sorrowful word. I'm not being cold Or heartless or brave, I'm not trying to be any type of support, I'm not going to cave. See, I've resigned myself to your passing Still imminent, still nigh, For the past year or so Since you started to tempestuously die. Yes, you have been special, Incredibly so, You've always sided with any of us When a battle started to show. You raised us when you were needed, A far better grandma than mum! You bathed us in the kitchen sink Where you filled our little tums With porridge for breakfast. Chloe'd have it no other way, She's the only one who could escape From your famous Sausage Roll to this day. I'm pretty sure the first swear word I've ever heard came from you, You used to send us to buy you wilks Which turned me and Kailey through and through, In your bathroom I'd Mr Muscle Sprayed in two year old eyes, In the back bedroom the bed was broke By a bouncy Kails and I. That cupboard's where your Christmas tree stays, Assembled the whole year through, Its taken down on Boxing Day And goes up around mid-June. In your garden lived the Jimmy plant, The place lit up like Santa's Grotto With all the lights you bought from B&Q When you knew you ought not to. You kept all your stuff in the Cubby Hole Two sugars in your tea, no less, A mountain of salt on every meal One downfall, I digress. But you've caused unbelievable trouble, Been stubborn and selfish and cruel. Not following doctors orders, Playing us like fools, Caring for temporary impulses Rather than looking ahead, More lives than a bloomin' cat I'm sure that can be said. I'm not going to airbrush I'll paint you warts and all, My wonderfully flawed gran, A rise before a fall I'm not going to portray a perfect woman No-one's ever purely good I'm just talking about my tarnished yet loving gran A tribute shown as it should. So I'll read this at your funeral As per your request And though you weren't quite blemish free I'm sure you were the best.
