He's come crashing back down turn Earth
After his cosmic baptism, rebirth
As he soared through Saturn's rings
Their condensation on his hair, dripping.
He smashed back into the atmosphere
Eyes wide open in knowledge and fear,
Houston we have a problem,
But in his snap reorbit he didn't hear the calling.
Venus held him in her gaze
Made him lovesick, left him dazed,
As hand in hand they danced on the Milky Way
And lived to die another day.
They had a taste of life on Mars
And courted with the twinkling stars,
Captured moonbeams in their pockets.
He still keeps her picture in a locket.
They slept on the sun, saw countless moons
But touchdown just came far too soon
And Mercury laughed as he hit the ground
And Venus took her orbit, safe and sound.
So now he broods and reads E.A.Poe
He's got no centre, no life to own
While the world still revolves on it's tilt
And says 'No use crying over love that's spilt.'
I'd tell him to go where man ain't gone before
And explore the universe a little bit more
But I don't think that's what he wants to hear right now,
Rather stay where his friends can be found.
Each year he sees her and he breaks his heart
To watch her cross the sky, no longer a part
Of his world, just another waltzing girl
Living in an anti-gravity world.
Venus broke his heart in two
And he doesn't know what he's supposed to do,
Her extraterrestrial charms were too strong to bear
And now he's left a part of himself out there.
