Why don't you like me?
What have I done wrong?
Perhaps I should put
This message in a song?
Write it from the heart
But keep my cards to my chest,
So each person who hears it
Can take a different guess.
Ask the question subtly
As I go from fourth to fifth
Then let out my frustration
With a chromatic modal riff.
But all this musical imagery
Won't get my point across,
I can't leave your interpretation
To the luck of the toss.
So why don't you like me?
I'll just come right out and ask
