He could do nothing more than puzzle at the games, unsure of her moves. What made her make such a risky move? Was it for his own sake?

Every time he flipped the board, the moves she made only confused his mind more so. What drove her cruelty, if not for the certain maddening horror that kept trapping his mind?

He held his head in his hands, letting out a sigh. What brought the move that she made on him? He couldn't figure it out yet. He decided then, seeing the white table through the gap of his fingers, that he would figure it out, no matter how long it took him. Not for the pride of the family of the one-winged eagle. Not for the family and sister that awaited him beyond this cage. Not for his release.

For her. Always for her. From the start, from the moment he met her, and she, him, it had always been played for the other. Each move the other made, to create the subtle truth that they search. For the love she has for him; for the respect and love he has for her.

He will always try to figure her out. For all eternity.

"It's useless. It's all useless."

He smiled at her.
