“'Oh, Ben… No, no, not– Yah! Ooohhh…'”
“'I love you, my darling.'”
“'And I love you' BD. BD! Wake up!”
BD abruptly woke from his dream, shaken by Nate. “Dude, we’re here!” He looked out the car window to see the sea stretching out to the horizon, the blazing sun being reflected in ripples. They had arrived at Silverlake Beach, a hotspot for teenagers and families alike for its beautiful settings, and artistic nature. The sand was a fantastic yellow, and there was rarely any shells mixed in with the tiny stones. He got out of the car, and breathed in a lungful of salty air. “Ahh, now this is heaven.”
Swifty stood next to him, leaning on his car. “Amen to that, my brother! Amen to that.” He slapped BD lightly on the shoulder. “How’s about we have a bet, man?”
“What sorta bet we talking about here?”
Swifty got out a tenner from his back pocket. “Ten quid on who gets a girl to talk to them back first wins it.”
BD grinned, and agreed with a shake of Swifty’s hand. “Deal!”
Raven rolled her eyes. “Once again, your minds are in the gutter.”
Swifty looked hurt. “We are not thinking dirty, Raven.”
“Yes you are.”
'Yeah, we are.' “We’re not!” BD said.
“You are,” Amy said. She then turned to Nate, who quickly changed his gaze when he felt himself reddening. She didn’t know whether to be hurt for looking away or smug about him turning into a human beetroot. “Wait, where’s Rat?”
The five of them turned back to the car, where they heard the unmistakeable sound of snoring from the front seat. Nate sighed, before he opened the passenger door.
“RAT!”
Rat woke with a jolt, but the sudden fright of being woken up so quickly made him go sideways, and fall to the tarmac with a thump. “Oww,” he moaned, shaking his head. “That hurt!” He then turned to the gang, and grinned stupidly. “Hey guys!”
“We’re here, Rat.”
Rat went up on his tiptoes to see the people on the beach. “Ahhh, sand! Sea! Sun!” He then saw the girls in bikinis. “Boobs!”
Amy and Raven both whacked him hard on the head. “We got two perverts already. Don’t make it a crowd!”
BD and Swifty laughed at their friend. “Ahahaha!” Nate grinned, before he grabbed the box from the car boot, and hiked it over his shoulder.
“We better get going. I can see a great spot over by the sand dunes,” he said, pointing towards the Silverlake beach’s famous Dune, a collection of sand mounds that kept its shape even when the sea came up to its base. Although it wasn’t hard ground, neither was it the soft sand that was near the car pack. It was a mixture of both.
Amy and Raven walked arm in arm, ahead of the boys. BD sighed to Nate. “I can see why you’d like Amy,” he said with a wink. Nate went red, and quickly walked ahead to join Rat. BD and Swifty went together. Their eyes were going back and forth, trying to see if there were any girls in couples. But they were to no avail. The girls they saw were either already with boys, or in such a big group that it would be impossible to get a word into the conversation.
When they arrived at the spot, Nate and the others set up a shade and laid out a large blanket to lie on. Rat stripped down to his shorts, and immediately set off for the sea like a child. The girls, in their bikinis, lay in the sun with the back straps undone for a good tan. Nate chilled out in the shade of a beach umbrella, and BD was writing things down in a chair he had brought with him. However, Swifty was up above them, sitting on top of the dunes, looking out over the beach.
“What a sight,” he said to himself, resting his arm on his knee. He too only wore shorts, with a pair of sunglasses on top of his shaggy hair. “Silverlake city, you certainly are a beautiful place.” He then spotted a group of girls sitting together about a hundred feet from where his lot were. “You also have beautiful girls.”
“YAAAAH!”
Swifty whipped around at the scream. He cast his eyes downwards, and gasped. A girl was at the bottom of the dune, hidden away from anyone else. She was holding her ankle, and her face was contorted with pain. Swifty shot up, and slid down the dune. He controlled his balance by putting his hand down on the ground as he slid. “Hey, you OK?!” he yelled. He crouched down, near her ankle. It looked swollen. “What’s your name, love?”
The girl opened her eyes for a moment, and they seemed a little out of focus as they tried to meet Swifty’s. “Larissa… Larissa Miles,” she answered.
Swifty gave the ankle a closer look. Whilst swollen, it didn’t seem as if it was broken. “Thank God,” he said with a relieved sigh. “It’s just a sprain. C’mon, let’s see if we can’t get you out of here, eh?”
The girl gave a small nod, and with Swifty’s help, she got up to her feet, but it seemed she couldn’t put any weight on her injured foot just yet. She wrapped an arm around his shoulders, and he around her waist. Whilst he had to keep his cool and get her treated, he still couldn’t help but smile a little. 'BD, I win.'
“So, Larissa–”
“Call me Lisa. Everyone calls me Lisa.”
“Lisa, where’s your family? I’ll take you there.”
Lisa pointed to a group of four that was a few hundred feet away from them. The two took their time going over, but when her father realised that her daughter was injured, he quickly got up and helped Swifty.
“Thanks, young man,” her father said gratefully.
Swifty shrugged. “Don’t mention it.” He then turned to Lisa. “You gonna be OK now?”
She nodded back, looking truly thankful for Swifty’s help. “Yeah, I’ll be fine. What’s your name? You never told me.”
“Jonathan,” Swifty answered. “Call me Swifty.”
“For your quick help, is it?” Lisa laughed. “Thanks, Jonathan. Really.”
Swifty winked. “Don’t mention it.”
Lisa watched the boy walk off, cool as ice, and his long shaggy hair giving him a handsome look to his sweet attitude. Lisa grinned. 'I wonder where he’s going…'
Nate saw Swifty approaching, looking smug about himself. He’d seen Swifty go off with a girl clinging to his waist. “Well, what was that all about?” he asked him.
“A girl sprained her leg. I took her back to her parents.”
“She looked pretty, didn’t she?” Raven said, having also noticed the girl being with Swifty.
“Yep,” Swifty said with a smug grin. “She was very pretty.”
Amy looked up. “Uh, is that her?” she asked, pointing to a girl approaching them. Swifty, Nate and Raven also looked up. Everyone except Swifty gasped at just how pretty the girl actually was. 'Holy crap!' Nate thought, shocked. 'He’s actually pulled a sexy bird! Well done, Swifty!'
Lisa looked awkward, but smiled when Swifty told her to join them. Her foot was now in a bandage, and she was taking care not to stand on it too much. She sat down on the blanket, with her legs crossed. She was pretty polite for her age. “I’m Larissa Miles. But call me Lisa.”
“I’m Nathan,” Nate said. “Call me Nate. She’s Amelia, and she’s Emily. But we call ’em Amy and Raven. We’ve also got Ben and Ryan, who’s nicknames are BD and Rat. They’re down in the sea.”
“Oh, cool!” Lisa smiled. “So, have you all been friends for a while?”
Amy nodded. “Yep. Me and Nate have known each other for years. Raven’s my best mate. Swifty is cool when he wants to be,” she added with a wink.
Lisa nodded. “He is certainly cool,” she said, laughing. “Helping me and all.”
'Swifty, the hero?' Raven thought with a shake of her head. 'Those words don’t go together. At all.'
Lisa then moved her legs so they were a bit more demure. Every now and again, she would glance at Swifty, something that Nate noticed. So, deciding that the girls would grill her out of that info, Nate suggested that he and Swifty go down to join the other two down by the sea. Although a little reluctant to leave her, Swifty went with him, allowing Amy and Raven to start asking Lisa questions.
“So,” Amy started, sitting on one side of Lisa. “What do you think of Swifty?”
Lisa blushed. “He’s a nice guy.”
Raven sat on the other side of the reddening girl. “Yeah, but what do you THINK about him?”
Lisa reddened further, and cast her eyes downward. Amy and Raven winked at each other.
“You like him, don’t you?”
Lisa jumped, and shot forwards, extremely embarrassed by their words.
“Well, you do, right?”
Lisa turned back to the girls, now really red. With the tiniest movement, Lisa nodded, and let out a whimpering, “Mmhmm.”
“Awwww!” Amy and Raven cried. “You’re so cuuuuute!” The two girls extended their hands to Lisa, to which she held delicately.
Lisa then went on to tell the two girls about her life up to that point. Whilst she may have had looks (but she persists on saying that she doesn’t), Lisa didn’t have that many friends. Sometimes, they would be alright to her, but then other times they would act horrible to her. And so it came that a girl such as herself hadn’t in fact ever kissed another boy. She’d sighed at that.
“Oh don’t worry about stuff like that,” Raven said with a grin. “You know the other boy, Nate?”
“Mmm?” Lisa responded.
“Well, Miss Amelia here loves him.” Amy gave Raven such an evil glare that it made her laugh. “Don’t spread that around, numbskull!”
Lisa smirked a little. “You two are real close, aren’t you?”
Raven grinned. “Yep. Me and her have been through hell and back. She and Nate have gone further.”
“What, like…?” Lisa blushed, before whispering, “Sex?”
Raven burst out laughing, falling backwards in an uproar. She was literally holding her sides in pain. Amy looked terribly embarrassed at Lisa’s words. “No!” Amy yelled. “No, no, no! We haven’t even kissed!”
Lisa sighed in relief. “Oh, ahahaha!”
Amy sighed, before she hugged Lisa. “So, Lisa, what school do you go to?”
“Silverlake High.”
Both River and Amy looked at her oddly. “Really?”
Lisa shrugged. “Well, sort of. I mean, I haven’t come into the school yet. I’m coming in when the new term starts up.”
The gang were off for their Halloween break. Even though it was autumn, the heat was still hanging around from the summer.
“An odd time to come into the school, isn’t it?” Amy asked.
“I tho
