I found a penny today Left as a tip On the table in the corner.
I think it's from China Or maybe Korea 'look at that funny writing' My colleagues say.
From Asia to North Wales Across land Across sea Through all language Barriers Carried in hand Or pocket Or wallet
Or letter.
Perhaps someone's Parents Sent it as a gift Or a reminder of home Or out of necessity.
How many hands Has it passed through? How many cultures Has it touched, Listened to, Glimmered in, Sat at the bottom Of a penny bowl for?
It might be older than me. Some coins are
Wiser, Mature, Weary, More tired than me.
Now it sits In my palm.
Cross my palm Tell me my future Little Penny Tell me about your past Where you came from, Where's you've been, Where you might go
Or don't you know? I wish I knew.
