"Will you wait for me, Maddie?"
Those were the last words Austin said to me. "I'll always be waiting for you, Austin," I promised, tears pouring down my cheeks. "No matter what."
Then they took him into that place, the Laboratory for the Investigations for The Future of our Earth. The LIFE building, the townspeople called it. Austin and I had always feared that place, with the curtains always drawn and the sinister silhouettes we saw in the half light. We'd nicknamed it the death building, because of all the teenagers that went in, not one of them had ever come out...
