“Honey! Come here and give your mother a cuddle!” I pulled both my bag and Jason into my mothers flat and gave her a hug. I watched over her shoulder as James shook Jason’s hand hand and took both of our bags upstairs to the bedrooms without even saying hello to me. My mothers house is a small, three story house with three bedrooms. The whole place has just been redecorated, and as I wondered into the kitchen I had to admit, James had done a pretty good job.
“So what do you think?” Asked my mum, seeing my looking around.
“It looks really great! James did an alright job!” I said.
“I know,” Mum walked over to the table and started rearranging the flowers next to me. “I’m so lucky to have him.” Rather than agreeing, I changed the subject.
“Anything else new?” I asked her.
“No not really. Same old boring job, same old pay, same old husband- not that I’m complaining! So… Jason.” I was more of a demand then a question.
“Yeah. He’s my boyfriend.” Mum rolled her eyes, so I continued. “We met at the beginning of the year,” I lied. “He asked me out on a few dates, we kissed, and made it public on Friday.” Mum grinned.
“Your first boyfriend!” She squealed.
“Yeah…” This lying was going to become habit forming if I wasn’t careful.
“I know,” Mum said slowly, “I was invited to a dance with James by a colleague from work- Why don’t we all go!” I pointed out the obvious.
“I don’t have a dress.”
“Then we’ll go shopping!” That could work…
