I freakin' love this part :D
*Justin's POV* "Justin, are you even listening to me?" my Mother queried loudly, eyebrows raised in an impatient smirk. I blinked once or twice, her pointed tone cutting my thoughts short. "No, sorry, what were you saying?" I asked, shuffling in my seat at the breakfast bar. My Mother sighed and turned back to the cooker, stirring the bubbling chicken soup as she spoke. "I wanted to remind you about the Family Christmas vacation". Oh joy. "Mom, do we really have to go? Can't we just tell everyone we're sick?" I moaned quietly, glancing over at Drew on the sofa. She flicked through the channels on the flat screen, trying to find something that would fit her taste. "Justin! No! Don't you want to see your grandparents? Your brother and sister are missing you crazy, and I'm sure you and your Father could have a beer or two" she blabbed on and on. Did she have to make me feel so terrible? Of course I want to see my Nan and Gramps. I haven't seen Jazzy and Jaxon in months, and I miss them so much. Jazmyn is four, and Jaxon is two. As for my Dad... I haven't seen him in forever. My mother was droning on about us having "Male Bonding Time", whilst I ignored her and stared at Drew. I watched her giggle gently at whatever she was watching, and I immediately grinned. My thoughts went something like: What should the promise ring look like? A proper engagement ring for starters. A gold ring, maybe a few diamonds, and a dark pink gem in the centre, to compliment her cloud grey eyes and dark red hair. Yes, I can see it now. It's perfect. She's perfect. "Justin! Pay attention!" my Mother came again. My head snapped back around to face her, the impatient tone in her voice telling me she meant business. She leaned across the bar, lowering her tone at me. "If you don't want to go because of Drew, then you really need to sort out your priorities. Family comes first Justin". Does she not understand? Oh what the hell, she's going to find out sometime anyway. "Mom, Drew is family. Well, she's going to be anyway...". Her jaw dropped, her eyes so wide they might pop out of her head. "You mean like a-". "A promise ring, yes" I whispered, briefly glancing at Drew. She was oblivious to the conversation. "You mean like a-" my Mother stuttered again. "Like an unofficial engagement, yes" I sighed, waiting for my Mother's excited squeals of meltdown. There it is. She giggled and jumped up and down like a school girl, letting out little squeals as she clapped her hands together in pure joy. Oh god. Drew looked over at the two of us, frowning at my Mother's odd actions. My mouth hung slightly open. Busted. "Uhmmmm, the soup tastes so great!" my Mom made an excuse. That's pretty good compared to what I was going to say. Drew feebly smiled, before turning back to look at the TV. Phew. I turned back to my Mom, letting out a massive sigh of relief. "Thank you" I breathed. She still had that incredibly smug look on her face. Like a little puppy that had just got it's first treat. I was ready for the bombard of questions about to be fired my way. Deep breath. And let it begin. "So when are you giving it to her?". "I don't know yet Mom". "Do you have it?". "Not yet, I'm still thinking". "About what?". "What I want it to look like". "Any ideas?". "I know I want it to be a proper engagement ring". She gasped and quietly squealed in reply, covering her mouth with her hands to muffle her joyful noises. Her eyes were lit up like Christmas trees. Here we go again. "Do you think she'll say yes?". "I god damn hope so.... What do you think?". And now she's put doubt in my mind. "I think, if she loves you like you love her, she's yours eternally" she smiled at me softly, reaching over to ruffle my hair. I chuckled for her to stop, playfully shoving her hands away as she went back to the soup. I looked over at Drew. I've got an idea. I know exactly where I want to do it. I just have to get her there.
Drew stood in front of the shelves patiently, reading the back of the box of tampons. I leaned impatiently on the handlebar of the trolley, sighing once again. "Drew, how complicated can this be? I'm pretty sure they're all the same" I protested, my head falling into my hands. I'm so bored. She turned to me, a smug look on her face as she placed the box back down on the shelf "How would you know anything about it?". I furrowed my brows together, my lips pursed in thought. "Lucky guess?". She giggled softly, picking up a box and putting it into the trolley, finally satisfied. We began to walk across the store, picking up various things I knew we needed. Drew wandered alongside me, smiling gently at some unknown thought. She giggled and linked her arm through mine. "What?" I chuckled, slowly pushing the trolley through the store. Drew rested her head on my shoulder, still smiling softly. "What?" she replied. "What are you thinking about?". "Nothing..." she giggled. "Oh come on Drew. You've got a face like a toddler that's been left overnight at disneyland". "You're gonna think I'm weird, and really crazy". "You're not crazy" I said firmly. She's always calling herself that nowadays. I didn't believe one word of it. She gave a feeble smile, arm still linked with mine as we walked. "I was just thinking... How sort of... Serious this is". "Serious what is?". "Me and you. Us". "Is that bad?". Oh god. I'm gonna start hyperventilating. She doesn't want to get serious. "What? No, no" she smiled, reassuring me truthfully. "I like it... And now you think I'm some crazy bitch obsessed with marriage" she half-heartedly laughed, embarrassedly looking down at her shoes. "Do you think... Marriage... Is a good thing? Like if it has any value?" I asked. I stated around the store, knowing that even if I glanced at her, I'd give it all away. "Marriage has value. I think it's a good way of saying you want to be with someone forever. But I don't know... I can't imagine being somebody's 'Wife'" she furrowed her brow on the final word, hands clasped around my arm. Ouch. Ok. That hurt a bit. I couldn't show it though. "Well what about me?" I asked nonchalantly. "What about you?". "Could you... Imagine... Being my wife?" I stuttered nervously, stopping to pick up a bag of tomatoes. I went to place them in the trolley, when Drew quietly protested. "Your Mom likes the cherry tomatoes" she mumbled softly, pointing to the plastic tub of little tomatoes. I chuckled, replacing the ones I had chosen with the ones she had recommended. We continued to walk in awkward silence. Meanwhile, I was itching to hear the answer to my question. This could make or break me completely. I just had to know. "So, the answer to my question?". She was silent for a few more moments, and I realised I wasn't going to get an answer. My heart dropped. I felt like someone was pummelling me over and over in the chest, threatening to snap my heart in two. "I'm sorry... That was a-" I began to apologise, when she stopped in her tracks, stopping me too. She turned to look at me, a fathoming look on her face as she said: "Yeah. Yeah I could. I could imagine being your wife". A slow grin spread across my face, my heart miraculously recovering from the near-fatal injury. We continued to walk in silence - except it wasn't awkward. It was nice. Drew kept her arm linked through mine as I pushed the trolley across the store. We ended up back where we started, and I was pretty happy, so I decided to have a little fun. "Hey Drew?". "Mhmm" she smiled at me. "Get some condoms". Her smile dropped, and was replaced with a dry, loathing look. "You wish" she bit back a mischievous smile. "Oh come on Drew, don't pretend like you don't want me" I chuckled, enjoying my moment of teasing. "You're a pig" she giggled, all signs of disgust evaporated. I swiped a pack off the shelf and let go of the trolley, mockingly dancing around Drew and waving them in her face. She laughed and tried to push my hands away. "You know you want to!" I chanted over and over, flailing them all around her head and shoulders. "Stop it! Cut it out Justin!" she giggled, trying to stop me anyway she could. She didn't have to. In front of us stood two teenage girls with pictures of me in their hands, eyebrows raised and jaws dropped. I stood, hand suspended in front of Drew's face, still holding the condoms. Well this is awkward. I nonchalantly placed them down on the shelf, half-heartedly laughing as I made an excuse. "Pssht. They're not for me" I fake smiled as best I could. Drew snickered, ready to get payback. "Because they're clearly for me" she laughed sarcastically, making the two girls giggle as well. "Can you sign these?" one spoke up, blushing as she held out a pen. I gave Drew an unnoticeable glare, before smiling at the girls and giving them both autographs. They then squealed, gave me a simultaneous hug, and ran off with beaming smiles. Drew smirked at me as we walked to the checkout. "You're so evil" I grumbled. "You're worse" she giggled as we found an empty self-service checkout and began scanning items. Drew scanned, and I packed in silence. "It's getting a little expensive, are you sure you can afford all this?" she asked worriedly, eyebrows knitting together. I simply raised my eyebrows at her. "Right. Stupid question" she half-heartedly laughed. We fell back into silence for a while, until I suddenly remembered an important detail of my whole "Promise ring proposal" event. Crud. I forgot. "Hey Drew, have you ever seen snow?" I asked nonchalantly, glancing over at her as she scanned a packet of ham. She gave me an odd look, as if to say 'Thats a bit of a weird question'. "Why?" she frowned suspiciously. "Just wonderin'" I shrugged, packing the ham as she passed it to me. "No, I haven't" she answered. Oh this is so perfect. "Well... Would you... Maybe... want to?" I looked up at her, a gentle smile on my face. She gave a long, drawn out sigh
