I love democracy, and I wish everyone could one day have democracy. But so many are growing discontented with their governments, even democratic governments, and we see cases of totalitarianism all over the world within democracies. So how can I love democracy?
Well, you see. Democracy works great on a small scale. It can be seen in Denmark; we're the happiest people in the world. Denmark is not the perfect democracy though, and there is some totalitarianism here as well. To show what I mean, we must look at the tiny freetown in Denmark called Christiania. This was created in 1971 by a group of hippies, and is now being closed because of controversy, and because of power hungry politicians.
This for me is the most successful form of democracy ever created, and it is sad that someone wants to destroy it. The people of Christiania have probably been the happiest people in Denmark for a long time, and I think it's because of their micro scale democracy, where everyone has their say. Anyone can raise their voice and be heard.
This is the problem with todays society as I see it. Everything has become too centralized. We have bigger and bigger governments, representing more and more people. Of course this structure limits conflict between countries, but it also makes people frustrated because they aren't heard, and that leads to riots and internal domestic conflict.
So there you have it. I love democracy, but not nessecarily the mega-democracies of modern society. I think it's far too easy for power hungry narcisists to take control of the masses. We need more decentralized power, thank you. Power to the people!
