There was no panic They knew it was coming A feeling grew amongst the people An intensity, a silent drumming

It darkened the world With anxieties clouds The sensation of winters possibility could be felt among the crowds

To the churches, chapels and temples they headed The quiet unknown is what they dreaded

They were utterly alone, Yet together they stood In places of faith They now understood

Some remained in their homes Embraced in the family bed Knowing they'd be together For the moments ahead

They prayed to their gods Not knowing who to turn to The sounds of anguished cries Echoed and reflected through the pews

As the clock ticked down The apprehension grew An uneasy disquiet Would they burn? Who knew?

Would the serpents be sent To capture their souls? Would they be swallowed up In an apocalyptic hole?

The winter sky darkened As the time drew near The church bells rang Signalling their one and only fear
