A stranger walked up to me, Said, " Let me take your hand, Let me guide you through the darkness, Take you to the promised land"
Should I trust this vision, should I take his hand; Should I follow him through the darkness, to a place where they understand?
"My world is full of light, My world is full of hope; There is no fear of darkness" he said "knocking at your door"
"So take my hand child, let me lead you away, Leave this house of sadness, for there is love and hope this way."
I looked over my shoulder, at the bottles on the floor; I heard the angry words, I could take this no more.
I took the strangers hand, And followed in his path; I left behind the loneliness, left behind the wrath.
No more solitary existence, no more neglect; No more anxiety; no need for my sanity to protect.
My vision showed me hope, how to hide away the screams; He put his arms around me, said "now child, follow your dreams."
*the inspiration for this poem was my miserable teenage existence under an alcoholic mother and father who liked his whisky a little too much. Knowing only my own hard work at school and strength would change my life- it was my hope.
