* If possible listen to the piece of music called 'I giorni' by Ludovico Einoudi which inspired this. And of course my son. *
I sit and listen Your fingers upon the keys Practicing, practicing, Notes upon the breeze.
One day I will listen With tears and pride At you playing my favourite With your father by my side
I will close my eyes And remember the day That Yankee Doodle dandy Was all that that you could play.
You are my little maestro You fill me with pride The quavers and semibreves Your musical guide
It's not easy That I won't deny But one day you'll thank me With the right of reply
The audience will stand And applaud in appreciation Transfixed with interpretation And your moment of celebration.
I will float away With every note that you play Knowing the battle of wills We had each day
But to listen to you now In my own sweet head You are incredibly talented It has often been said.
Tinkle away on the ivories And black Continue on your path Please don't ever look back
You fill me with joy You fill me with pride Your fingers produce magic As the ivory collides.
One day you will play This piece with pride I will be overwhelmed with tears As music is your guide.
Alexander, just now you don't understand Your hands are your gift I will be your audience And stand at your command.
