I don't smoke, but here I am
Flicking grey ash to the ground
There's no real panic considering
Not even a pin drop sound
They've asked us to write a letter
But I don't really see why
Everything and everyone I love
Will soon wither and die
Why can't they bury books
Instead of what we think
What could we possibly say
Now that humanities on the brink
Books will tell the story
Of all that has been
Tell you of our history, our thoughts
What we've discovered and seen
I look at the blank paper
With ball point pen in my hand
Stare at the elephant paperweight
Only you'll know what happened to this land.
If any one reads this
You'll see that I am at a loss
No story to tell or advice to give
Except you can dance to Luther Van Dross
How lame am I
With only days to live
I should have something profound to say
I have nothing more to give
I've been sitting here for hours now
Rambling on and on
I want who ever reads this
To appreciate the waking dawn
I don't think I'll see it again
The beautiful morning sun
The thunder clouds are gathering
One lightening strike and we're done
I've lived my life to the fullest
Enjoyed every day
I hope you'll do the same
Let love rule not decay.
Yours
