But they didn't come back to play

But while he was swinging his feet He noticed the shadow on the ground He said "will you play with me?" And so a new friend he had found

It never ran away did his friend Or screamed in fright It even had a hand like his It couldn't have been more right

He had so much fun with his friend At night he had to say goodbye But he knew he'd be there the very next day To chase the clouds in the sky

The other boys and girls Saw he has having so much fun So they asked if they could play too And they all chased their shadows in the sun

From that day on, he was never lonely again Nor did he feel sad The other children loved to play with him And no longer saw his hook as bad

In fact in came in rather useful When they were climbing the tallest tree He had better grip than the others Which they thought was ace, you see.

*inspired by a boy I went to school with. He wasn't left out like my story, we all played together, but we all thought it was odd when he eventually got a prosthetic hand. That freaked us out more when he took it off for fun.
