It's good to help the aged, Those that are struggling in a time of need; Those that can't help themselves, Struggle just to wash, clean and feed.
Today I helped a neighbour, Who lives all on her own; I took out her two dogs, As her drinking is getting her down.
She doesn't know I know this, But my immediate neighbour is her friend; My nature won't allow me to ignore it, My shoulder and hand is there to lend.
She won't admit she has a problem, But that's what alcoholics do; She's basically living in her lounge, The dogs are only let out for a pooh.
She doesn't let anyone in the house, As things have got out of hand; Her drinking is getting worse, But I want to tell her I understand.
It's just like my own mother, What is happening here; An old lady's cry for help, My inner conscience sheds a silent tear.
So for the moment, Her friend has called in some social care; I'll take the dogs out for exercise, Although its better if someone else is there.
One is a coiled up Springer, Ready to run and run; The other is a strong black Lab, Who'd rather run away than come!
But I managed to control them both, In the horrid pouring rain; Erin got soaked in the back pack, While Alex screamed, what a pain.
My immediate neighbour and I, Will do all that we can; But it's hard dealing with an alcoholic, When helping themselves is not part of the plan.
Ive seen it all before, The stories, the deception, the lies; I'm a shoulder for her friend to cry on, Show her with our help they'll be bluer skies.
I couldn't bear history to repeat itself, I will help in any way that I can; I don't want to see an ambulance at her door, So loving thy neighbour is my plan.
