It's a lonely bed without you The nights seem so long The days drag in to darkness Five weeks now you've been gone
I suppose I should be used to it Sixteen years of wedded bliss Serving Queen and country Always saying goodbye with a last kiss
You've missed countless birthdays Over the many years Not shared our children's firsts But there's no sadness or tears
There once was a time Not so long ago You couldn't wear your uniform in public It went against the status quo
But now times have changed Everyone's out to help a hero You've seen death, mutilation and destruction Leaving families with nothing but zero
Your son is so proud And often looks to the skies In the hope while at school You'll do a fly by
Now we are four Your daughter will learn too That her father gave up much To serve and protect YOU.
