His face can be seen in the uppermost window Watching with those intent eyes Behind him, the amber glow A beacon of light in the dark skies
A curious candle of red and black With marks etched on the side Ornate and elaborate fingers Twist round and then divide
He lights the candle on October first When the invitations are consigned He takes great care with every letter And the manner of their design
The candle will burn down throughout the month And go out on All Hallows Eve Just like the next intake of guests Who will never ever leave
