She was a professor of theology and the classics, understatedly elegant, unconventionally beautiful and single. Her mind and independence her downfall, men were intimidated by her, despite her best attempts. She had long ago resided herself to the fact that she would remain so, enjoy her own company and do as she pleased.
Right now that was exactly what she was doing.
With grace and ease, she rose from sitting and slowly made her way closer to where he was. The room was in one of Budapest's finest apartments. Tall ornate ceilings, exquisite Verdure tapestries adorned the walls depicting lush scenic landscapes. From the ceiling hung two elegant gilded baroque chandeliers, casting an ambient luminosity over the clouded room. The walls a rich blood red to match the heat of the gathering.
She stopped, and admired the brass carving near the fireplace, casually sipping on her glass of wine. The waiter passed by with a tray of canapés, she dismissed him with a wave of her hand. She could see him better now and more importantly listen.
