// Harder. Better. Faster. Stronger. //

I was frozen. Slowly the pieces were fitting together and revealing something so unimaginable that I'd rather have been oblivious to all together. "So that's why you're here," said the man, snapping me back into reality, "The government is launching a program to investigate the extra terrestrial activity that is corresponding with our environment. We believe this could involve potentially life threatening situations that only an experienced troop could handle, but unfortunately we don't have the option of using the military since anyone over the age of twenty - one doesn't have the ability to see supersonic activity. The catch is that there are shrewd motives from the opposing side. From what we gather, they're trying to see how much we can take, to see how strong or weak the human race is. I'm sure you've noticed the nuclear radiation leaks covering the news. The officials wanted to cover it by saying it was just a power plant malfunction, but it was actually coming from the sky...where They are. Other leaks are coming from a source somewhere in southern California where we believe They have a base, but we're unable to track Them on the radar. They're observing our weaknesses so that we may be taken advantage of. They know we can't handle even the smallest amount of gamma radiation, so that's what They're using. Your job is to find them. We've gathered a team of eight incredibly able individuals within the age range, and we're currently un the process of improving them." He finished, again waiting for my reaction. By now, I felt as though a large concrete slab had just whacked me in the gut. A sinking feeling made my neck shiver and my head grow warm. I recalled the other day when I was screaming on the test table as they injected me...was that the government's idea of "improving"? "What improvements?" I asked, half terrified of what I was about to hear. The man's eyes began to light up in ambition. "Ah, this is where I'm in charge. The idea is that you are going to be virtually super human. You'll have capabilities that no other human could have been able to sustain or much less undergo the process necessary to obtain them. This is big stuff. As of three days ago, you've undergone the first stage that increases your senses to a razor sharp pin point. Next we'll work on atomic structure in your body as well as muscular function, improving it to over a thousand times stronger than that of a cheetah. You'll be invincible, unmatchable. Besides your super human abilities, you'll notice irregular sleeping patterns. Most likely you won't need to sleep for days at a time, longer than the average human body can take. You'll also undergo intensive training with the rest of the troop. We won't work too much on direct combat since we're not sure what They're capable of, but the idea here is stealth.". He crossed his arms, looking very satisfied yet serious. I was in shock. "Elizabeth, you have an obligation to protect this world," he continued, noticing my hesitation, "Do you remember the day we chose you?" Of course I remembered. Military officials had burst into the school during first period, carrying large guns and nearly scaring us half to death. They suddenly ordered the entire school to form a straight line with our backs pressed against the gym walls. They stalked up and down the assembly inspecting each student one by one. We were petrified in their presence, tall fierce looking men sporting ridiculously large guns that threatened to explode anyone who did not cooperate. After they had looked over the assembly for the seventh time, I breathed a sigh if relief, hoping they would leave. I was wrong. Just when we thought the brutal inspection was over, the military group huddled together briefly then suddenly broke apart into an attack formation pointing their guns directly at me. I gasped in shear horror. Two of them walked forward and grabbed me by the arms. "M'am," they said, dragging me out of the school, "Just relax. This is a FBI mission. You are now in possession of the government." Right, how on earth was I supposed to relax? My classmates and teachers watched helplessly as I was lead into a military van. I saw my parents pull up behind the van. They leapt out of the car and made an attempt to get to me, but three officers stopped them. Then I fainted and didn't wake up until much later when a dark man stood over me with a syringe...
