// Harder. Better. Faster. Stronger. //

There were seven others chosen as I was. I saw them for the first time as guards were marching me into the large training facility where we would learn the art of inflicting death. There they were, wearing identical black training uniforms and grave expressions. Three girls and four boys, none could be older than eighteen. All were incredibly well built with excellent physique. Behind their serious eyes, I saw flashes of duty, honor, but also uncertainty and hesitation. It dawned on me that they must be as terrified as I was after being kidnapped by the government. The head trainer stood in front of the group with his arms folded tightly across his muscular chest. He was tall with dark brown skin and bulging muscles. "Welcome, Elizabeth," he regarded me. I suddenly felt extremely intimidated by his presence. Equally intimidating was the panel of officials sitting behind a glass window above out heads. "I'm Coach Justice. Over the next two weeks, we'll be going into intensive training specifically on what you need to survive this mission: stealth, sleekness, swiftness, strength, and direct combat with an extra terrestrial, but hopefully this will never occur. I understand that you've been chosen for this mission because of your abilities. Now, you are no longer human, you are super humans, you are mutants. We will learn how to use your powers to complete the mission. You now have a duty to not only the US but the world. The world is counting on you to help us survive this attack. Do you understand?" The coach stated, glaring at us seriously. Everyone nodded gravely. He then turned to me. "Elizabeth, the others have been warming up since this morning, but your treatments took longer than theirs...let me introduce you to the Resistance Troop." He said acknowledging the seven others. "This is Arya," he nodded towards a gorgeous brunette with glowing sapphire eyes. "Fire." Arya's piercing eyes then shifted into a vibrant red color, giving her a completely wild look, as flames erupted from her hands and whipped about her arms. The Coach seemed pleased. I was mortified. I now fully realized what was going on. This is what all the improvements and terrifying procedures were for. We had been mechanically injected with toxic chemicals...resulting in super human powers. This was unnatural...this shouldn't have happened. "Next," the coach continued down the line, "This is Kyle Reese. Shock." next to Arya was a boy with beautiful tan skin and unruly blonde hair, much like the amazing surfer dudes my friends and I used to watch at the beach. His hands began to crackle with electricity as voltage ran along his arms, illuminating underneath his tan skin. "Connor," Coach Justice continued, nodding towards another boy about my height with brown hair and hazel eyes. "Gravitational reposition." I wondered what this meant, when suddenly Connor shot up into the air, about 100 feet to the training center roof and then came lurching back down speedily, hitting the ground with his fist and causing a huge shock wave throughout the room. I braced myself against a cart full of spears to avoid being knocked down from the force. "Next," the coach continued, seemingly unphased by the shock wave. Connor stood up slowly, breathing heavily. "This is Cameron. " He acknowledged a huge, muscular boy with dark brown skin and piercing eyes. Cameron simply nodded in my direction instead of displaying his abilities as the others had. I wondered why the coach had not even mentioned his ability at all. He had already moved on to another boy with raven hair and glowing blue eyes like Arya who looked much younger, perhaps near my own age of fifteen. "Logan," Coach nodded at the boy, "Elusion." With that, Logan's body dissolved into thin air and suddenly reappeared within an inch of my face. Startled, I staggered backwards. He smiled boyishly in amusement. "Enough, Logan!" The Coach smirked, rolling his eyes. I guessed Logan must do this kind of thing often... "Annabeth, force field," the Coach acknowledged a blonde girl with gorgeous, sharp features. I couldn't help but start to feel slightly inferior. Perfect almond eyes, an elegant sloping nose, bright cherry lips, radiant golden skin, and silken locks of hair. The boys stared at her as glowing, transparent orbs grew in her palms. With a slight output if exertion, she thrust the orbs towards a weapon cart upon which the cart shattered into pieces. I now felt completely intimidated. The Coach reached the last girl in line. "Last we have Sasha...ice." Sasha glanced upward at the Coach as we waited for her demonstration. "I think it's plenty cold in here already." she said, eyes glaring accusingly. I sensed this was a jab at the officials who had taken us from our homes. The Coach frowned. "Now...Elizabeth," he said, trying to not seem flustered at Sasha's remark. "Your specific abilities have yet to be determined. Your injection involved a highly radioactive substance that should increase your heart rate and your muscular function by drastic amounts. We're assuming this will result in a more physical power as opposed to an elusion power such as Logan..." he explained further. I nearly gasped aloud at the thought of poison running through my veins...A normal person would have died by now. But I wasn't normal anymore. I was a part of the Resistance. We are supernatural. We are Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger.
