I traveled down to base at Lucy's request. I opened the door to her room, barely putting a foot inside before she hugged me tightly.
The soft carpet crushed under my military boots. The muffle echoing off the walls. I tread lighter. Up ahead there's an air vent. It's open, hanging off its hinges. Swinging expectantly.

With thanks to @MrAlex @Naaviie and @Eyes5IB check out there perspectives. I held up my fist then looked round the corner, my eyes scrutinised the shadows, trying to detect life. I saw none.
We landed about a mile from where they originally went missing, we did this so that if they were being held captive nearby then it would not be obvious that we were there to rescue them.
'I'm in' I replied. Lucy shot me a worried look. 'pack anything you need and meet me in the morning at the helipad, oh and don't forget your mask this time' she said with a hint of a smile.
I was blown backwards, in what felt like minutes, but I knew in reality it was probably seconds. Every thing that I heard was muffled and sounded like I was under water.
As soon as we step off the helicopter,we are greeted by the sight of dozens of terrified looking people. They can't tell the difference between who to trust and who to run from anymore.
When is it time to say enough is enough. When do you give up because you'll be better off.
We rode through open country, sunlight on our backs and a brisk morning to wake us up. We had left early, sleeping overnight in a tent.
It's been, at most, four days since John passed. She can't remember when it happened. All she knows is that the beast is to blame.
