CHAPTER 1 ~this is my new story. I hope you like it. It's quite long~

The old church entered my sight. I quickened my step, afraid of capturing its unwanted gloominess. Everyone in the village knew to keep away from this dark place. As I walked past the church, something red caught my eye. I knew I should carry on, but I couldn't resist knowing what that red thing was. I slowly turned round and saw the red object. It was a rose. The red rose hung delicately from a tree, which shadowed by the church. I heard footsteps from behind and twisted my head round. No one was there. I turned to face the rose again but realised it had disappeared. "What?" I whispered, only to myself. I looked at my watch, six thirty. I turned my back on the church and headed up the lane. The village was quiet and peaceful as I turned left and walked down my road towards my house was which was right at the end. I closed the front gate behind me and walked towards the oak door. I could hear the doorbell chime through the house. I heard the unlocking of the door. "Hello mum." I said walking through the corridor and hanging up my coat and bag "Are you hungry?" she asked "I was about to do pasta with pesto." I nodded. "Sure." I saw my reflection in the near by mirror. My dark, curly brown hair was pulled back into a plait. My hazel coloured eyes looked tired and worn. I went into the next room and lay on the sofa. I thought about the rose and how it had just disappeared. My thoughts were interrupted by the doorbell. "I'll get it," I called getting up and walking over to the door "dad!" I screamed jumping on him. I rarely got to see him. He had been away for eight months on a work thing. "Hey kiddo!" he kissed me on the cheek "where's your mother?" As he said this mum came out of the kitchen. He kissed her briefly on the lips and then hugged her tightly. I went back to the sofa and tried to reorganise my thoughts. I closed my eyes and tried to remember what had happened. I began to hear faint voices. "Tiffany?" my mums voice called. I opened my eyes to find mum hovering over me with a bowl of pasta and pesto. "Huh?" I grumbled, sitting up and becoming more awake "You fell asleep," mum smiled "would you like your pasta?" I nodded and took the bowl.

The next day was cold and foggy. I could just make out the garden gnome, through my window. I pulled on a T-shirt and jeans and went downstairs. Mum and dad were already up and in the kitchen. "Morning." I said sitting down on a chair. Mum put a bacon sandwich on a plate and gave it to me. "Morning sleepy." dad grinned After breakfast I decided to go into town. I grabbed a coat an pulled my hair into a limp ponytail.

On my way, I saw the church. The steeple was lost in the thick, cloud of fog. I looked to where the rose had been but it wasn't there. I carried on into town looking back every now and then to check if it had reappeared. I arrived in town and bought a cookie from a cafe. I wandered round town looking in random shop windows. When I decided there was nothing else to see I headed back up the lane, towards home. I passed the church and saw the rose. It was hanging from the tree as if it had been there all along. I looked behind me. No one was there. I creaked open the rusty, church gate and walked up the path. The church had big, wooden doors, with a tiny keyhole. I gently pushed on one of the doors, it didn't budge. I tried the other door and that didn't move either. I put both hands on each door and pushed. Nothing moved. "Locked." I muttered, giving up and walking back down the muddy path. The gate jangled behind me as I walked up the lane.

I put my coat up on the rack and walked into the kitchen. "Hey dad." I said "Hey," he replied looking up from his newspaper "have fun in town?" "Meh, I didn't buy anything though." I wanted to ask him about the church but I knew he wouldn't know anything. He went back to his newspaper. I sighed and walked upstairs to my bedroom. I lay on my bed, with my music quietly playing in the background. I suddenly remembered a necklace I had gotten for my birthday. It lay untouched in a box under my wardrobe. I hadn't worn it yet so I decided to try it on. I placed it round my neck. It was a dirty orange colour in the shape of an octagon. I fell to the floor without a sound. I saw pictures of the church. The pictures zoomed in of the door. The keyhole. I saw an odd shaped key being placed into the keyhole. The doors of the church opened slowly. Then all the images went black. I heard voices. "Tiffany Brown." it wasn't my mums or dads voice. "Get out of here. Or it will kill you." at the word kill my eyes shot open. My hands, without a thought, snatched the necklace off my neck. I could see my bedroom. My bed. My wardrobe. I breathed heavily, feeling my heart-beat. There was a knock at my door. "Come in." I coughed weakly. "You alright?" mum asked kneeling next to me and feeling my forehead "I've been calling you for ages. Lunch is ready." "I'm not hungry." I mumbled hiding the necklace under my bed. "Eat something, please?" mum said not seeming to have noticed the necklace "You'll feel better." I groaned but got up. After lunch I went back to the necklace. I grabbed the chain and put it around my neck again. No images or voices came.
