CHAPTER 4 I phoned up my mum. "Mum, dad didn't do it!" I cried

"What?" she said sounding as surprised as I did

"He's coming home!"

"What?," she said still in shock

"Do I need to explain again?" I asked

"No I believe you," she said "I just can't believe it, it's wonderful!"

"I know, he's back tomorrow!" I said. I then said good bye and hung up. If your wondering why my dad has only just come into the story is because, when I was 12 my dad was suspected of doing a crime. I can't remember what though. Anyway he was taken away from me and my mum for like 8 years. We never heard from him since, apart from this letter. He's now said that he was proven innocent and can come home.

The next day came and at 8 O'clock at night, so quite late, me and my mum, who had come over earlier, heard a knock at the door. "DAD!" I screamed. I launched my arms around him. Behind him I saw a shiny purple Audi parked in the drive way. "Dad?" I said, as I couldn't say anything else. "What? I like purple!" he said sarcastically

"Are you serious?" I said, speechless. He nodded and I jumped up in joy. I ran over to the car and jumped in. Mum then came out and stood in the door way. She saw me fiddling about in the car. Her eyes then moved slowly towards dad. Dads arms opened and mum accepted the invitation for a hug. A car then drew up and parked on the pavement. It was Max. "Who's this?" dad asked seeing the car.

"Hi Max." I said, answering dads question, well partly.

"That explains a lot." he said. When Max was out of his car, he gave my dad a hand shake, as men do and he then introduced himself "I'm Max as Corinne just said," he said. Dad gave him a look that said 'Say no more!' "How about we go out to dinner?" mum suggested. We all agreed. I decided to go in my new purple car. Then unexpectedly everyone else got in too. "Um what are you doing?" I asked

"What? Can't I see you drive a car that I gave you?" dad grinned, mum did too. I sighed and started the engine. We then arrived at a small restaurant called 'The Wild One' we got out and asked a small waitress where we should sit. She showed us to a table that was right by the window, that looked over a few fields and hills dotted with cows and sheep. We looked at our menus and when the waitress came we gave her our order and sat chatting and laughing all night!

When we arrived back home, dad and mum went straight back home, we waved good bye from the drive-way but instead of going inside me and Max stood there next to each other. "You look cold?" he said stepping behind me and pulling me close "No I'm fine, well." I replied. He chuckled and leaned in and kissed me gently, on the lips.

The next morning, I did my usual routine and headed off for work. I parked in the staff car park and saw my boss, Mike, lighting his daily cigarette. "Hey Corrine!" he said, with a puff of smoke.

"You really shouldn't smoke, it stinks." I coughed and I quickly walked inside. I wrapped my apron around me and waited for customers. It was busier than usual that day. Mr. Lappel came in for his common cup of coffee and biscuit and Mrs. Avery an elderly woman who was always polite came in an ordered a mug of tea with a custard cream. She always orders one but I sneak on two for no extra price.

That night I went to bed feeling exhausted and was soon asleep.
