I heard a car horn honk and knew I had to go.

"Bye." I shouted to my mum. She shouted back something but I couldn't hear what she said. I sighed and closed the door behind me. My friend, Lucy waved to me from her car window. I ran to it and got in.

"Happy birthday!" Lucy squealed giving me a hug

"It's not my birthday yet, um, where's everyone else?" I asked

"They're already at the site," she said "They ordered me to collect you." I nodded and opened the window, letting the wind mess up my long blonde hair. The drive to the site was only twenty minutes, so it soon ended and Lucy parked the car. My friends had organised a camping trip for my birthday for a few days, before school started again. Me and Lucy walked up the hill towards the woods. We had the whole of the clearing to ourselves. All my friends were there with their tents already set up. As soon as everyone saw me they leaped up and gave me a hug. They all said 'nearly happy birthday' but then went straight back to what they were doing. Alex was by a pile of logs trying to light the fire. He was failing, miserably. I dropped my bags and walked over to him. He didn't seen me coming so when I tapped him on the shoulder, he jumped in fright, which made him fall over dropping the matches. I couldn't help but laugh.

"Very funny." he scowled

"Yeah your right it is," I laughed "Anyway, I wondered if you needed help, and now I really think you do."

"No thanks I'm fine." he was red in the face and I laughed again. I nodded and went to set up my tent. By the time I had finished though Alex was still having trouble with the fire. I smirked but decided to leave him alone and let him get on with it.

I then saw Georgia making the dinner.

"Need any help?" I called to her. She nodded, looking a bit desperate. We were cooking a chilli and it needed a lot of attention. At six we called to everyone that dinner was ready and they sat eagerly round the unlit pile if logs.

"Who was in charge of the fire?" Matt moaned. Alex went red and glared at me. I zipped my lips and he smiled gratefully. I saw the matches perched on the edge of the log I was sitting on. I picked them up and lit a match, I threw it in the pile of logs and with that the logs blew up with an orange colour. I grinned at Alex who growled back. I laughed and sat back down.

When we had all finished, Georgia cleared all the plates and bought out three packets of marshmallows. Her blue eyes shone in the moonlight as she bought them over. She then handed a stick to everyone and we tucked into the marshmallows. By the time we had finished most of us were asleep. Lucy wasn't though. She walked over to the other side of the fire and sat down next to me. We chatted for a bit but then decided to go into our tents.

A sudden loud noise jolted me awake. I looked at my clock, two in the morning. I sighed angrily and tried to get back to sleep. I couldn't. I tossed and turned. I lay awake until I heard someone do the zip of their tent. I looked at my clock again, six.

"Pssst?" I whispered sticking my head out the tent doorway

"Oh Megan," Lucy sighed with relief "I couldn't sleep I heard a noise and then I thoug…"

"You heard the noise too?" I interrupted, she nodded "Its probably just the trees or something."

We talked for a bit until more and more people started to wake up.

When everyone one was awake and sitting on the logs, Lucy asked them about the noise and if they had heard it or not. Everyone shook their head and looked confused. Lucy looked at me and I shrugged.

Georgia sighed heavily and bit her lip.

"What's wrong?" Matt asked kneeling down next to Georgia and putting his arm around her. I always thought they looked really sweet together because they both cared so much about each other.

"We have no logs, or matches," she said "It's hopeless."

"Not it's not," I said hopeful "I'll go look for logs and I think I bought a spare box of matches." Georgia smiled as I stood up and walked off into the shaded woods.
