Today was the last day of camping. Also my birthday. I didn't want anything big to happen. I didn't really want any presents but I knew that was impossible with friends like mine. I put on a fake smile and got out of my tent. Everyone was sitting on the logs. I sighed and sat next to Alex. "Morning, birthday girl!" He said cheerfully handing me a small box. I glared at him. "Alex!" I moaned "I told you I didn't want anything. What are you guys like?" Everyone stared at me in shock. "Sorry. Bad dream. Thank you, Alex," I sighed opening the box and finding a small blue bracelet "It's beautiful, help me put on." It fitted perfectly. I hugged him and opened everyone else's present. From Lucy, I got a new purple bag with small beads at the top, Matt gave me a new CD and Georgia gave me a bottle of perfume which was very expensive so I scolded her for that, but hugged her afterward. "We were thinking that we would leave the campsite early and go see a movie, would you like that?" Matt suggested "Yeah, it's already ten so we should probably leave now." I agreed. We packed up all our tents and bags and headed down to the car park. I drove with Matt and Georgia in Alex's black jeep while Lucy trailed behind with all our bags. I felt a little guilty at first but she insisted so I hopped in the passenger seat of the jeep. We went back to my house to drop our bags off but got interrupted by my mum. "Ugh." I muttered so only Lucy could hear. My mum, Freya looked at me disapprovingly "Here's your birthday present and don't complain about the money, I will pay for it." I looked at the birthday card she had given me, it said on the front 'HAPPY 17th BIRTHDAY!' I looked up but she was already gone. "I don't get it." I said "Ugh, look inside when we're in the car, now come on let's get moving." Matt complained. He had always been impatient or he was always moaning at something, but by knowing him for eight years, you get used to it.
We went to the cinema and watched, something. I hadn't really been paying attention. I was too busy looking at my card from Freya, all it said was 'don't complain about the money I will pay for it… vroom vroom!' While we were eating lunch and Matt and Alex were talking about the movie I suddenly realised what my mum had given me. "Driving lessons?" Georgia asked in disbelief "I thought you had already passed when you went to your dads for like 10 months?" Lucy said surprised "Yeah so did I, but I guess not." I replied. I gave the card to Georgia who had gestured for me to give it to her. Her blue eyes scanned up and down until she looked at me with stern eyes. "You idiot!" she finally said "I was hoping for a different response but that will do." I grinned. "What is it?" Lucy questioned Georgia's look. "It's not driving lessons," Georgia began "She's buying you a car!" I stared at Georgia. "No need to thank me…" Georgia teased "Sorry, um, thank you," I said dazed "I still can't believe it."
When we had finished lunch everyone went back to my house to collect their things. They each said good bye and were soon out of sight. I found my mum in my bedroom, making my bed. "Hey mum!" I said. She jumped and looked at me with her dark green eyes. "I worked out what my present is, thank you so much!" I threw my arms around her and getting a face-full of her light, wavy blonde hair. "Your welcome, honey, when do you want to go look?" "Tomorrow? Or is that too soon?" "Tomorrow is fine, now, help me with this bed."
The next day, Monday, we went to an Audi garage and looked around. I kept worrying that mum wouldn't have enough money but she said her budget was three and a half thousand. I was just about to give up and leave when I saw a blue convertible. "It's perfect!" I exclaimed I looked at the price it had in the window: two thousand-seven hundred-eighty five. I sighed in relief. I looked at mum and she nodded. She walked over to a man in a suit and started talking to him. What I hadn't realised was that mum had the money, there and then. She walked back over with a huge smile on her face.
