When we reached the beach, the rest of Colin's family were there.
Colin's dad, James was by my side in an instant.
"Glad you could come, Megan." he said.
"Yes it's nice Colin has a friend." Matthew joked. Colin punched him in the arm and then started to chase Matthew round the beach. They were incredibly fast. Faster than I expected.
"Don't worry Megan their always like this." Colin's mum, Penelope said noticing my shocked expression.
"Malinda! At least make an effort to talk to Megan." James said. She shrugged and joined in with Matthew and Colin. When they stopped they sat down on the sand.
"I only meant it was good that Colin has a mate from the outside world and not our…" Matthew paused and caught a glare coming from Colin "never ending…"
"Matthew!" bellowed Colin "You idiot, don't finish that sentence."
At first I thought this was all a joke but when I saw James, Penelope and Malinda growl at Matthew I knew it wasn't.
"Malinda take Megan away, until I say she can come back."
Malinda was about to protest but I saw James make a face and she stopped. I got up and followed Malinda to the other side of the beach. She was walking to fast that I had to run to stay at least a yard behind her.
"Wait up!" I called but as soon as I said it I knew I shouldn't have.
"I was ordered to take you a long way away and that's what I'm doing, so… so don't argue with me."
I kept quite until we stopped.
"Why do I have to be taken away?" I asked.
"Because Matthew just nearly gave away our…" she stopped herself before she could finish. I racked through my mind thinking of a word that would have finished her sentence.
"Secret?" I whispered. She sighed and sat down on a bench near by.
"Yes," Malinda breathed. I sat down next to her. "Our secret," her voice was soft and quiet "I'm not allowed to tell, not unless I discuss it with the others first."
It went quiet for a moment.
"I guess it must be a big secret then, am I right?" I said. She laughed lightly. Her laugh was like the waves of the sea.
"Yes it is very big."
We were interrupted by Colin's shadow.
