The Foster Boy doesn't understand the way a family functions Alcoholic mother, abusive stepdad Damaged his emotional junctions He's wired up wrong not his fault And there's no one who can fix it Loving foster parents try But all they get is lies and shit He doesn't want to be this way, but change is proving hard A few years he's been here with them now But he's every bit as scarred
Despite the care they give him and the love that they bestow Academically a Grade A student Yet emotionally, he's years below the age that he should be at And can't cope or communicate Endless social workers taking months to procrastinate Over the best course of action Who's help does he need? Psychoanalyst, psychotherapist Doctors, CBT Abandonment, Co-dependency They really can't agree As to how to treat 'his issues' But they're just too blind to see Because no one actually asks him What's really in his head He knows he has a chance here But that he'll mess it up instead
He could be part of this family, forever if he wanted Yet his best efforts to fit in are difficult and stunted In six months time at this rate He'll be transferred back into the 'system' It's not what he wants, & he knows he'll be fucked But it's the only place he can function
His real mum's having her sixth kid Another affair on a whim Four brothers already in care And now a sister for him Says she's gonna get cleaned up, sort herself out and win him back Then shoves a tenner in his hand- Saving enough for her favourite child called crack...
He knows that she's a liar and will let him down again It's not a matter of if -it's just a matter of when He lost all trust at an early age With no nurture, bonding or care What's good or bad, right or wrong Who said anything about fair?
He's another kid who stood no chance, left fallen by the wayside Lost, abandoned, misunderstood Forever running with nowhere to hide.
