Her Mama always told her, That one day she'd go far No waiting tables, turning tricks Or singing in a bar "My girl, she's going places- just you wait and see. Gonna break out of this small town, see the big world wide and free."

I guess she just got lucky, Right place and right time, Hot shot guy from L.A came round Gave her chance to shine.

Took her to the bright lights, His very own 'Precious Queen' But backstage all the 'extras' Were hidden, left unseen..

And small-town girl grew big, Wised up, learnt the patter and the lies But if you looked hard & deep enough, You'd see the driftwood behind her eyes.

And sure, the money changed things, But the cost left her cursing fate, Long after the fun, & the damage was done, It was too little, far too late.

Still, she stands on the stage nightly, And the audience, she'll obey. An empty shell of loveliness, Dusted with decay.

Standing in the spotlight, She begins to understand, Fame is just an empty bottle, Fortune, a one night-stand.
