Widget was downstairs in the hallway, as I was getting ready for bed. She was making quite a racket, trying to get my attention. I walked down the stairs, and peered over the bannister. Widget was hiding beneath a large sheet of cardboard that has become a tunnel for her and my other cat, Gadget. I called to her, while still on the stairs, but she wouldn't come out. She's a very smart cat, but I know her all too well. I announced that I was going back to bed, and tapped my fingertips on the bannister to simulate footsteps. It worked, because Widget came out of the tunnel, turned the corner, and was surprised to see me still standing on the steps. Silly cat!
