Chapter 2

Rose stopped breathing, terrified. The creaking was coming from the old shed, the haunted old shed.

"MUM!" Rose screamed.

Rose's mum rushed upstairs, her eyes wide with fear for her daughter.

"What is it Rose?" she asked, worried.

"Someone just went in...the old shed!" Rose cried.

Rose's mum put her head in her hands and thought about what to do. Her daughters life was the most important thing, nothing else mattered, as long as she survived. The sound of a terrified scream filled Rose's ears, making her jump and shake.

"Listen sweetie, come downstairs, chose a film and watch it. I need to go outside and see what is going on. I will be gone for five minutes," Rose's mum whispered.

Rose nodded, and obediently ran downstairs to chose a film. She chose a blanket and wrapped herself in it, her fingernails digging into the soft fabric. Rose's mum put on her slippers and rushed outside, shutting the door behind her. Everyone would be talking about what had a happened for days, no one had dared to enter the shed in years. Rose covered her ears with her hands, blocking out all sound. Suddenly, another blood-curdling scream filled Rose's ears, not even her hands could block this particular sound out. Without warning, Rose froze. This scream sounded familiar, like her friend, Zoe's scream. This was definitely the same one. While she still had the chance, Rose sprinted out the door, not bothering to put any shoes on.

"ZOE!" she screamed.

As expected, there was no answer, just silence. With butterflies in her stomach, Rose flung open the door to the shed and was shocked when she saw an empty, dark room. Zoe wasn't in there. No one was. Cobwebs hung in every corner of the room and a layer of dust covered the floor.

"Hello?" Rose shouted, her voice echoing.

She knew this was pointless as no one could hear her, except maybe the ghost. Rose shivered, it was so cold inside the shed. Suddenly, the walls started to close in on Rose, slowly and steadily. This had to be Rose's death, had to be. She was crying and crying, tears rolling down her cheeks then dripping of her chin.

"HELP ME!" Rose screamed.

The walls were nearly touching her now, an inch from death. Then Rose saw something. Another door on the other side of the shed, it could lead to anything, anyone, anyplace. Without thinking, Rose pushed the door open and leaped threw the doorway, gasping. Cold sweat was trickling down her back, it was awful. Rose then looked around her. A dark, eerie forest was all that was visible and a black night sky, no stars. Faster than ever before, she sprinted through the trees, her hair getting caught on branches, slowing her down each time.

"Zoe?" Rose shouted.

No answer.

Finally, Rose saw a dim, white light in the distance, she must be near the end of the forest...
