Stuart James Arthur Thomkins was 34 years old. He had spent most of his childhood in borstal homes and most of his adult years in prison. He was a petty criminal but he had a tendency to be aggressive and violent.
The worst he had done was to hit an innocent man with a brick. It was at a bus stop 2 years ago. The man attempted to board the bus before Mr Tomkins and he subsequently paid the price and spent the following two weeks in hospital.
Stuart Tompkins was now out of prison and he was broke. He woke up this morning determined that this was going to change no matter what he had to do. He thought for a while and then decided he would make his way to the nice bungalows at the back of his Council estate. He was confident he could steal something there. -------------------------- Darren arrived at his Mums bungalow at about 11am. Although he hadn't called her, she somehow had been expecting him.
"I need to talk to you Mum and I need you to be honest with me, totally honest no matter what" he said. His Mum looked at him and for the first time in his life, he saw tears in her eyes. "I know son" she replied, "I know".
Darren sat on her couch in the living room whilst she made a fresh pot of tea. She spoke to him generally from the kitchen about everyday happenings in her somewhat boring and mundane life. When she brought in the Tea, Darren looked at his frail Mother and remembered how strong and dominant she used to be. Now, she was but a faded remnant of what he recalled.
"Mum, look. Things have happened over the past few years that I can't explain. Whatever's going on is getting worse and somehow, I don't know why, but somehow it has something to do with you, maybe just something you know, hell, I don't know but these things, these Strange, well what can I say, happenings I suppose, they're leading me back to you?"
His Mother looked at him with tears running down her cheeks. "I'm so Sorry Darren, ohhh, I'm so sorry" she cried. "i'll tell you everything". At that very moment, the back window smashed..,
